I still personally don’t like honoka because she just a female raidou (although I’m pretty sure she copies different moves than the ones he uses) and her design is very generic. Her design literally just a pink hair busty airhead anime girl. Yeah Marie rose’s design is not any better but her design was like Elliot, where their designs were took a different approach than the other fighters. Elliot had a twink-ish look instead of manly man look and Marie had a petite body type instead of a busty curvy body type.

I know youtube's just gonna delete my commet anyway so I'm content to admit this here, I spent two weeks learning to play the lyre and another two learning to master the tracks I had made in that time all for a small admittedly [ adult ] fan project as a way of saying thanks to the love and downright respect mihoyo had shown to me as a f2p player... the anniversary changed that, I quit game development because I realized people simply don't care about this shit as much as I do. they don't understand micro-incentivising despite loving it so much. Learning that someone who might not have even heard of genshin lost their job simply because my comunity review bombed their studio into oblivion, I have never been so dissapointed in people before and I can only pray I stay well enough away from folks that it never happens again.

I'm not fully caught up on Street Fighter lore, but it's to my understanding that he began learning the martial art as a means to take revenge on the one who killed his father. His training was never completed, so he took what he did learn and developed his own unique fighting style by mixing in new elements. The twist came when Kage was announced in SFV, and people were quick to note that some of his moves were similar to Dan's. Since Kage was the manifestation of the Hado within Ryu, it gives credence to the idea that had Dan completed his training, he may have gone down a similar path to Akuma. Guess we oughta be glad we got the goofball we have now instead, huh?

I love seeing this style whenever it shows up, both in practice and in fiction. In terms of the latter, I've been interested in seeing if there are characters out there who have a reason for sheathing their weapon again mid-combat to prepare for another attack. The Rule of Cool is a valid reason, and some in the comments have mention Jetstream Sam's sheathe having a trigger mechanism that can launch his sword out faster. Besides him, I can only think of one character in Bleach, though it's been so long since I watched it that I can't remember who it was. All I do recall is that he was initially battling with quick draw slashes, until someone managed to grab his sword and prevent it from entering its scabbard, nullifying whatever trick he was using up to that point.

On second thought, let us not go to Twitter. It is a silly place. The funny thing is, what you've described is an observation I've made as well, the major difference is you have a following and I'm almost literally nobody so it's easier for people to paint their grievances onto someone recognizable. I'm more of a spectator than a competitor when it comes to fighting games, so I recognized the trend less as a 'neutral skip' and more as a way to telegraph important information to the casual viewer/player. There have been times when I've watched tournaments for games I was unfamiliar with and one player will land a move that will get the commentators excited, but it'll look the same as the previous several moves that player threw out (it gets even harder with anime fighters where a player might throw half a dozen or more moves on block only for one to suddenly connect). Nowadays, when a player lands a Drive Impact or a Heat Engager, I don't need to be intimately familiar with the game mechanics to recognize that the attacking player just made a move that'll give them some sort of advantage. It's flashy, and it serves a purpose. Also that note you mentioned about Justin Wong's video at the end reminds me of competitive ARMS. Early in the game's history, I remember players complained that the timer was too short and that the game overly relied on defensive play. Later into its history, matches were flying by at a blistering pace. Defensive play wasn't gone, but people started to learn how to play more aggressively.

Poaching is taken *very* seriously in the world of Monster Hunter. They have Hunter Guild Knights whose duty it is to literally assassinate rogue hunters who break the law like murder or poaching outside the confines of the guild's ordained hunting quests. It's why even "free hunts" can only be undertaken by hunters with the appropriate authority and permission from the guild and why every one of their kills/captures are tracked by the guild.

I'm not a fighting game guy (at least since Super NES Street Fighter II days), but I really appreciated your enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject. Definitely agree that mechanics inform the genre and gameplay experience so much (which is why I get frustrated at all the D&D 5E reskins, but that's another can of worms, haha).

I've started looking at Darkstalkers stuff since that one Capcom collection was announced, I've admittedly never been huge into fighting games, but Darkstalkers does seem like it has a lot of cool concepts.

If you also detour into board games, Level 99 Games has done a very good job of translating fighting games into a card game with their Exceed system. They recently printed a guilty gear box specifically.
